This group is responsible for the formulation and provision of our advice, working with the broader Senate Assembly. A core multi-disciplinary 'steering' group of between 20 -30 members forms the Senate Council. The members include a range of clinicians from across health and social care and 2 - 3 patient and public members. The Council meets bi-monthly and oversees all Senate business. Members are appointed for a mix of tenures of between two and three years, to a maximum of 5 years, enabling the Council to manage continuity of its work at times of membership change.
Members are recruited based upon their credibility and experience in their particular professions. They are not appointed to represent their organisations or their professions, ensuring that impartiality remains one of the main strengths of the Senate.
